Yu Watanabe 388f1e56bf test: drop the 'function' keyword and redundant subshell braces ...

Mechanical cleanup of function definitions under test/units/ and
.github/workflows/unit-tests.sh:

- Drop the 'function' keyword, i.e. 'function foo() { ... }' -> 'foo() { ... }'.
- Simplify functions whose body is a brace-wrapped subshell, i.e.
  'foo() {( ... )}' -> 'foo() ( ... )'.
