Reported in review by ghgoodreau: KaTeX defaults to inline mode, which
rejects display-only TeX. `A["$$x^2\tag{1}$$"]` threw "\tag works only in
display equations", so the resolver returned null and Pele drew the
literal source. mermaid.js passes `displayMode: true`, so this does too.

Display mode also restores mermaid's display sizing: \frac and \sum render
with stacked, full-size limits. The in-page measurement still matches what
the SVG draws: `x^2\tag{1}` measures 86x26 and draws 86x26, `\frac{a+b}{c+d}`
35x30 and 35x30.
